This list focuses on thriller plot ideas and crime stories, but many of the ideas could be also used in other genres, such as mystery, fantasy, science fiction, and romantic suspense. I thought of these as writing prompts for adults, but I’ve learned that some teenage writers have used them, too! I had a lot of fun making this list.
After my first post about personality types in astrology, a writer friend told me that she thought most romance heroes were either Aries or Scorpio. I felt like there was at least some truth to this, and maybe we can branch out a little more. Every zodiac sign is good inspiration for a leading man or woman, whatever you’re writing.
Whether you believe in astrology or not, the personality types of zodiac signs have resonated with people for centuries, and that makes them interesting and useful for a writer. Romance story ideas should be based in conflict. Like Shakespeare said, “The course of true love never did run smooth.” Obstacles give your characters the chance to change and grow as people, and to prove how much they really do love each other.
