Here are some gifts for the book lovers in your life…or things you can put on your wish list to give your family and friends ideas about what to get you for your birthday or Christmas. If you want to go all out, you can combine one of these things with gift card to a bookstore, or put a few of them together to make a Reader Gift Basket that will make you look like a gift-giving genius.
Speaking of reader gift baskets, I’m going to draw a name from my newsletter subscribers and send one person the last gift on this list. You just need to be signed up for the newsletter by Sunday, August 30, at 11:59 pm CST. Click on the link at the upper right of this page!
I thought it would be a good time to do this list, because more people in the United States have birthdays in August than in any other month. (When you work for a greeting card company, you know about these things.) And of course, it’s always a good time to treat yourself.
1. This Super Karamazov Bros. Tee.
This is a new height of nerd-dom. And you know that from me, that’s a compliment.
2. This Personal Library Kit.
How cute is this? Hint: very cute.
I know nothing about cigars, but a few years ago, Cigar Aficionado called this one of the best bargain cigars out there. The name is perfect for a literary cigar lover. (P.S.: Wow, does this picture look phallic.)
4. This pendant with a quote from Jane Austen’s Persuasion.
To me, this is hands down the most romantic part of Austen’s oeuvre (<– a word I do not know how to pronounce.) It makes me swoon.
5. This tank top with the names of feminist authors.
Such great workout wear! 10% of the proceeds go to Girls Rock Philly.
6. This lavishly illustrated edition of Leaves of Grass.
Look at how gorgeous! It’s not even expensive.
7. This Hogwarts “comfy throw with sleeves.”
I keep thinking about getting this for a niece of mine. I don’t even know if she would like it. Maybe I really just want it for me?
…about the most beautiful libraries in the world. Sigh.
9. This wine from Quixote Winery.
Quixote Winery isn’t vintner Carl Doumani’s first brush with literary matters. His other winery, Stag’s Leap, provided the title for poet Sharon Olds’s Pulitzer Prize-winning collection. (Thanks to BookRiot for pointing this one out to me a while back!)
10. This Reading Woman Calendar.
11. This Edgar Allan Poe candle.
I don’t think it actually smells like Edgar Allan Poe. That would be weird. (Update: my friend says it smells amazing!)
12. This luxury fragrance, L’Air de Rien from Miller Harris.
Why? Because it smells exactly like sex in a library.
13. This tote bag…
featuring the iconic quote from Herman Melville’s short story, “Bartleby the Scrivener.”
14. This 1,000-piece Best Sellers puzzle.
15. This reading journal.
16. This zippered canvas pouch featuring banned books.
It’s just the perfect size for makeup or revolutionary ideas.
17. Novel Teas.
Each teabag has a quote from a famous person about the joy of books.
18. This Maya Angelou quote necklace.
‘If you are always trying to be normal you will never know how amazing you can be.”
19. This Sherlock Holmes pillow cover.
Also available in other classic titles.
20. These shot glasses…
Featuring Dorothy Parker, Oscar Wilde, W. B. Yeats, Charles Baudelaire, Lord Byron, and some other guy who wasn’t so much a writer, but whatever.
21. This two-book set…
That is actually a lock box. Sneaky!
Hide secrets in your bookcase!
22. These bookworm socks.
Because fall is just around the corner.
23. This sweater that’s made for Friday.
So cute, and it’s on sale!
24. These matchbook sets.
I want to get some for book club party favors. Featuring Slaughterhouse-Five, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Black Beauty, Fahrenheit 451 and Song of Solomon.
I have a mug with Shakespeare quotes from this same maker, and I love it. It’s such a nice hefty size. This is what I’m giving away!
If you like any of these, or if you have a suggestion for a reader gift, let me know! Happy Friday, and I hope you’re got something great to read this weekend!
